Yoga, Fashion Souks and Festivals, Oh My!

Last night’s The Vinny Hurrell Show was not only as jam-packed and bursting at the seems as it usually is, but it also marked the beginning of an all new format! Woo hoo. From now on Vinny will be joined as usual by the lovely Caroline and also one or two other special guest presenters. Last night’s show was Tracy and James’ last one – though James will still be reviewing films for us (albeit over the phone – technology, eh?) and Tracy will be guest presenting in future.

Featured in last night’s show were Stuart Campbell, telling us about Willowstone Arts & Music Festival 2010, Maura from Feile FM telling us about her experiences at this year’s Glastonbury, NI Chart countdown – and a chat with this week’s no 1 band The Dead Presidents (with their song Love Again). We also found out about Yoga in the Park (St Columb’s Park, Derry this Sat (3rd July), 12-2; donation to Northland Centre) and the Belfast Fashion Souk (11th July).

Roller Derbies, Water Sports And The Need For A Bigger Boat

This week’s The Vinny Hurrell Show was yet another bursting-at-the-seams extravaganza of chit-chat, interviews, music and off-beat news stories. Kicking off the evening was a chat with Rosa Hughes from the Belfast Roller Derby – an American-invented contact sport based on formation roller skating – currently causing a stir in the city… Next up we had a look at a couple of classic movies that celebrate big anniversaries this year – Jaws (1975) and Blues Brothers (1980). We also had our usual chat with the lovely folks over at NI Chart and checked out this week’s number 1 – England Will Be Missed by the C64s (second week running – congrats, guys!).

Rob Skelly also joined us on the phone to tell us about this year’s Waterways Ireland LoughFest. Waterways Ireland is the guardian of Ireland’s inland navigations. Their mission is to provide a high quality recreational environment, on the waterways in their care, for the benefit of all. Skiing, surfing and whatever else you can do on the water is the order of the day at this festival.

Mountain Boarding, Football and Music for Charity

Tonight’s show could not have been any more jam-packed! Kicking things off was a chat with Gary Parr from Surfin’ Dirt Mountain Boarding. Amongst other things we talked about World Mountain Boarding Day – which takes place Sat 19 June. After that our resident film geek discussed (a little bit more in-depth than we’d have cared!) George Romero’s supremely spooky 1977 cult vampire flick, Martin, which has been repackaged and re-released by Arrow Video. Twilight eat your heart out!

A first for the show – we chatted to a twitter-buddy in South Africa about the World Cup-induced atmosphere over there at present and caught up with almost-Big Brother housemate Tiffany. Of course, no show would really be complete without our weekly exchange with the lovely folks over at NI Chart. And we naturally spoke with this week’s no.1 artist – The C64s, currently nestled atop the chart with ‘England Will Be Missed‘. Go here to download it.

Our new correspondant Phil Reynolds caught up with local indie-rocksters General Fiasco to chat about their recent support slot at the huge Snow Patrol concert.

To round off the evening we were privilaged to chat to Maggie Devlin from Yo Como about their new album Give A Sunrise. Give A Sunrise is described as personal and loving musical storytelling which navigates old and new territory to create an unshakable nostalgia for a time and place you might never have known, yet one that feels familiar.
